Ten years gone by.

The next couple of months mark ten years since major decisions, major achievements, and major changes were made in my life.  It all starts tonight.

April 17, 1998 was the night where Greg asked me to leave family and friends behind in Wisconsin and Illinois to join him in Boulder, Colorado upon my college graduation a month later.

By the end of the weekend, I knew I had to take the biggest risk of my life and just do it.  We’d spent the past twenty-one months in a long-distance relationship and we needed to know if we could make it work without so many miles between us.

Telling my parents was another thing.  It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.  I wasn’t afraid of telling them I’d be living with Greg – my siblings had already set precedence in that respect.  I was afraid of telling them I’d be moving a thousand miles away.  I know they weren’t that surprised when I finally broke the news.

That first year was far from easy and there have been some rough times since, but I’m awfully glad I took him up on his offer for a roommate ten years ago.
